The highest point in the entire province of Pontevedra is the source of the River Tea in the municipality of Covelo, the Faro de Avion ( 1155 m ). The River Tea flows down the Tea Valley, diagonally dividing the municipal territory. Along its journey it is fed by numerous streams of crystalline water, full of animal and vegetable life. Its waters are full of mountain trout (smaller than the calm water variety), otters and other species rare to other ecosystems have also been seen. The combination of wild areas, appropriate to such high land ( Sierra del Suído and Sierra del Faro), contrasts with the fertility of the small valleys and woods of the lower lying areas. These peaks are examples of high mountains in their natural state only a few kilometres from the city.
The woods located in the upper Tea are the most extensive and best conserved in the province of Pontevedra, and some of the most important in Galicia. The level of production has intensified to preserve this natural heritage from uncontrolled logging that creates heavy soil erosion and the loss of a rare ecosystem. The land is full of wild boar, roe deer, small carnivores, otters, birds of prey, woodcock, lapwings, wild cats and other species that find their ideal habitat in these forests.
The River Tea figures in the Complementary and Subsidiary Regulations for the Planning of the Province of Pontevedra as a Natural Reserve, in the order of 5 June 1997.
